I saw a twitter post on LostDogsIL of a lost Pomeranian in Rockford. On 9/2/14 I came across a post on Craigslist of a Pom for sale and I posed as a buyer to get an appt. to see this dog. You can read some of what took place on to get Peewee home on LostDogsIL. It was a stressful time for both myself and Peewee's owner, but with help from the Police, Peewee was recovered. I want to let people know that posts on Craigslist or other pet sale websites may not honestly describe the animal for sale. The description of age, temperament, length of time owned or caring for "their" pet, training behavior, interaction with family and other pets, and breed description are but a small listing of things to dismiss in these posts when you're looking for your lost pet. These posts will go as far as stating false information of a female being spayed, microchipped, and being a picky eater. The seller is spinning a story to make people believe the pet was theirs, but if you copied these posts you will see the common content. Many times there isn't a photo and may have a phone number listed or email only. Please check all avenues of finding your lost pet, including rescue orgs., animal services and for sale sites and area classifieds. Expand your search to other locations, ie. with Craigslist if you're near a large city like Chicago Northwest suburbs, be sure to check Rockford in the lost and found and pets for sale section.

I run a facebook lost and found pet site. I helped a woman looking for her two lost small Maltese. Trying to make this long story short... One was found at a shelter not the one closest to her but about 20 miles away. I found her on the shelter photos. However, the other one was not with her. The shelter said someone called about the chip found in the dog... gave the number to the owner to call her. When the shelter personnel gave the owner the callers number the woman said it wasn't her. Using that phone number I traced her address. She was just 4 houses away from where the dogs lived!! She continued to say she didn't have her but when the police went to the house with her they heard the dog barking! Officer tells the woman he will have to go inside to look for himself and suddenly the dog is handed over!! The red flag for me was how many dogs disappeared from the same cross streets. In her backyard were several cages. I believe she steals the pets and sells them on craigslist. We have so many lost dogs in our city. Some I find at the shelter... some good samaritans house and look for owners but a great deal of them are never recovered. They are usually highly desirable Yorkies, Morkies and Maltese, ShihTsu. I spend a lot of time searching through photos of dogs. Often these dogs did not escape, they were stolen from their yards. One had a video of a guy hoping the fence grabing the dog and throwing it in his truck. They were on tape!! What kind of lowlife steals a family dog? Would they take your child if your child was in his yard? I believe so. I suggest you do not allow your dogs to be in the front yard. Locks on gates don't seem to matter... they jump over the fence! The photo I am osting is one we found today. I am trying ver hard to find the owners. I have plastered the photo on as many sites as I can. I am hoping the owner will be located soon. We have far more dogs then we do foster care.
