This group is for anyone who wants to talk about pit bulls. You don't have to have one to join this group, if you've got an opinion or perhaps own one, this is the group for you. So much is written about pit bulls and there are so many misconceptions about this breed, hopefully this group can shed some more light on them.
I will be honest and say that I am. I have no basis for the fear, so I
think it must come from the media hype, and I have bought into it. I
don't believe in breed bans, but on the other hand, I would be terrified
if my neighbor owned a pit bull. Anyone have more to add to this topic?

I think that it takes a dedicated person to own a pit bull. I worked at a
Vet Clinic for 16 years and saw a lot of different stories about them.
They require a lot of attention and if they don't get the right attention,
they can snap - it IS in their blood. My dad (the vet) always said to
watch them after they turn about 2 years old, that seems to be the age
when they have a tendancy to become aggressive. Our neighbor (an elderly
couple) had one and when their dog was about 2 1/2 (he was nice by the
way) he pinned his owner in a corner and we heard her scream and had to
coax the dog away from her. It was sad because they loved that dog.
Anyway.... I really think you have to be very cautious of this breed.

My friends son was bitten by a "nice" pit bull the other day. He was just
sitting on the bed and she attacked him, he got 17 sutures in his lip.
Thank God the dog didn't do more to him. These dogs are NOT to be
trusted, the are not mis-understood. They need special owners who are
willing to work with them and who will watch them all the time when they
are with other people. Pits, German Shepherds and Rottweilers are the
cause of most dog bites and fatal attacks. The docs at the hospital told
my friend these stats.

I have to say I'm not afraid of Pitts never have been and never will be but
i have been bitten by one. It was mostly my own fault even the doctors and
vets that me and my mom asked about the situation say it was. I got into
the middle of my two Pitts fighting, when trying to stop them and the one
got a hold of me instead of the other dog but as soon as she realizes what
she had done she let go immediately. There were no stitches needed and no
real damage just 3 puncher wound. I steal keep the Pitt that had bitten me.
I had to fight long and hard to make mom mother let me keep her but she did
for me. The Pitt has not attacked any us or acted differently since the
fight and we don't worry about her changing at all like we use to. But
sadly we have lost her 2 two weeks ago and can not find her. The only thing
we can think is that someone has found her and is keeping her because she
is such a wonderful dog. But to tell you the truth if anyone one the street
were to ask me if I'm afraid of them i would honestly tell them no.

Pitbulls are really just misunderstood. I think they are just wild but can be
easily tamed.
