Reunited Dog
On 10/18/12 my dog Bear who is 20 years old 10/31/12 quietly walked out of the front security gate while some repairs were being made to the gate, it was early afternoon. The repairman was in the garage getting tools. I was organizing the closet in the office of our new home we have lived at for 3 months. A short time later my dog Babygirl who is 4years old is acting anxious at the gate like she wants to go outside more than usual. Up to that day I didn't keep collars on my dogs while in the house. Bear had managed to stay clear of being chipped while living in Oakland for his 20 years of living. Baby girl the feisty one is chipped. Bear at age 3 encountered a 1 swipe fight with a raccoon leaving him with only a quarter of his tongue, to take in water and pant when he is hot and tired. Being lucky enough to live for 20 years and still get around with a rear limp and deaf in both ears but still having some vision and great sniffing ability, Bear makes his way approximately 2 1/2 to 3 miles in afternoon traffic. Two beautiful animal loving ladies on the way to a doctors appointment picked Bear up and he collapsed in there car from exhaustion and dehydration. Ii have never lost Bear or any other animal prior to this day. When I realize Bear is gone from my house I am immediately panicking. No collar, No chip, New house, New city, No hearing ability.... My niece who is living with me gets on the computer and sends out the lost doggie alert and prints out a flye, while my friend the repairman and I all check the neighborhood. Bear is already on his way to some kind strangers home in the next city over to be revived. For 7 days of which the first 2 are raining heavily at night, I'm posting flyers which are not staying up on poles at cross walks. Im checking bushes in the mud at night in a new city, talking to homless people and business owners. The ladies check back two times in that week, finally find a flyer. They were going to keep Bear if no flyer the second time. Bear Clean, Safe & Healthly is returned home thanks to my niece, lost my doggie website, and mostly the two very kind animal loving ladies that found Bear and cared for him. The lesson for me is Chip, Register in Current City You Live in, Keep a Collar With Tags On Even In the House and Never Give Up Hope. I was heart broken and stressed so badly I couldn't do anything but worry and search for my dog. There are many websites to get the word out some like this one who call neighbors around your home and make an instant flyer with the most important info only and post lost and found animals daily. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!! Shelley
